VISA Information
International students are responsible to apply for the following permits themselves at the Immigration Services Agency.
Extension of Status of Residence
- The application period begins three months before the expiration date of your current visa.
- Please submit the required documents to the International Student Section at least one month before the expiration date.

Applicants fill in the 'For applicant, part 1-3 P ("Student").'
The International Student Section will prepare the 'For organization, part 1-2.' - Certificate of Enrollment

- Certificate of research content
(for Research Students only; please ask your supervisor to prepare this.） - Documents verifying financial support
e.g., scholarship certificate, copies of bank passbooks - Attachment (Various Confirmation Forms)

Re-entry Permit Application
If you return to Japan within one year
"Special Re-entry"
- You do not need to apply for a formal re-entry permit.
- When you depart from Japan, you must:
・present your Residence Card
・place a check mark in the corresponding box on the re-entry departure ED card:
"Intention to deaprt under the Special Re-enrty Permit" box
If you return after one year or more
- You must obtain a formal Re-entry Permit before you leave Japan.
- The Re-entry Permit will be issued on the same day at the Immigration Office.
